THE U.S. DILEMMA
The chief complaint among parents with players currently involved in academy programs is that there is little to no actual development of the players. This often contradicts the stated purpose of academies promising player development.
Parents who truly value improvements in performance, skills, and abilities but are not overly concerned with wins and losses are a great fit for the Dominar family. We focus on the complete development of the player and place a premium on raising the ceiling of long-term potential vs short-term accomplishments.
HOW HAS THIS HAPPENED?
The short answer is lack of exposure to quality coaching. This is not only a U.S. dilemma but is common among most countries new to the sport (less than 100 years of playing history). By contrast in England for example, is a country years ahead of the U.S. in terms of futbol history and development yet the average premier league youth academy player who trains approximately 4 days per week for 2 hours per session, easily averages about 135-180 touches per training session. This equates to about 1350-1800 touches per week. Sounds like enough right?
Sadly it is not. In fact, it is not even close to enough.
By stark contrast in Spain for example, this weekly average is around 3,200.
As you can see the difference is substantial and the likelihood of a player closing that gap is virtually impossible by the age of 18 as it is consistently widening.
This is significant, yet not the worst of it, because as you add direct contact hours with a qualified coach (private training, one on ones etc) and the higher level of competitive and skilled environments these players play and train in and that gap between the European youth player and the U.S. player quickly expands into an uncrossable divide.
I owe a great deal of my early development to the time I spent at La Masia. The exposure I received
to the environment, coaching, skills, and touches on the ball caused me to view the game totally differently.
